John was born in Brasilia, Brazil, the son of American diplomats, and was raised in South Africa, Venezuela, and Washington, D.C.  His experiences in Latin America and Africa, his interest in Brazilian Modernism, and his work as a licensed General Contractor in California and Minnesota, have fueled his interest in art, design, and architecture.  

 

After completing his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., John moved to San Francisco, where he studied industrial design and art at the San Francisco Academy of Art University.  John then moved to San Diego, where he received his Master of Architecture degree from Woodbury University.  During this period, John also worked at a premier architecture firm in New York City, and studied architecture in Rome and Barcelona.  

 

The founder of HyR Building LLC, John has a passion for sustainable design and construction methods.  He is constantly researching and educating himself in the areas of building science, design, and art.

 

John is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
